Overall, the food taste and quality is consistent, hence the high rating. I want to rate the crab cake dinner specifically. My rating out of five stars is 1 star. I decided to try the crab cake dinner yesterday. Though a little pricey $49.00, you get two Maryland style lump crab cakes and two sides. Since Carolina Kitchen’s food is typically good, I thought this would be a win. The presentation of the meal was neat and looked inviting. The crab cakes have areas of lump crab meat but really mostly filler. They were fried and the crab cake tasted slightly like grease. The oil the crab cake was cooked in was not fresh oil. A suggestion would be to offer a broiled option for customers. The crab cake tasted like the recipe had “extra Old Bay” seasoning. The Old Bay seasoning was overpowering making the crab cake on the salty side. Overall, I was not pleased with my crab cake choice. However, since I paid $49.00 plus tax, I figured I better eat up! I will not make that meal choice again.
I haven't eaten there and years since I changed my eating habits. I'll tell you what the food did not disappoint. It was just as good as I remember I will be back.
I've noticed some inconsistencies in how certain policies are applied at this location compared to others. When I requested two vegetables together, I was able to do so at both the Lanham and Largo locations without any issues. However, the manager here informed me that it wasn't possible and that I would need to pay separately. As a regular customer at those other locations, this has been a standard practice for me, so it was surprising to hear otherwise. I believe it would be beneficial for the manager to familiarize themselves with the policies to ensure a more consistent and professional experience for all customers. Thank you for looking into this!
I like Carolina Kitchen, and I think it is important to support community minority owned businesses. The food here is pretty consistent...most times fresh, prepared well, and tasty. However, the portion sizes always change depending on the server and when you tell them that they simply make you feel as if something is wrong with you and say "this is what it's supposed to be." The food is pretty expensive, about $25 a plate, so I expect my portion sizes to be commensurate with the price. Please train everyone the same because it's not fair to the customer to have to haggle for their fair share in line. Also, is this a full service restaurant or cafeteria style? Which locations are which should be duly advertised as such because some people enjoy full service and some would rather pick up in line and go home. While I enjoy the food and friendly welcome at Carolina Kitchen, your consistency and professionalism are a little lackluster and could use some work. That being said, I'm still coming back for those Collard greens! They are delicious 😋
In town from North Carolina for a Spartan Race and saw Carolina Kitchen and had to go in. This place is most definitely Carolina approved! Food was excellent and the people were super nice. They recommended the jerk chicken and the beef short ribs (I was hungry). Got some yams and collard greens for sides. Everything was a hit but the jerk chicken was my favorite. Don’t overlook this place!
